Selena Gomez Shares Emotional Details About Taylor Swift's Handmade Birthday Gift

Selena Gomez has opened up about the deeply sentimental handmade gift she received from her best friend Taylor Swift for her 30th birthday in 2022. The 33-year-old actress and singer appeared on the latest episode of her husband Benny Blanco's podcast Friends Keep Secrets, where she revealed heartfelt details about the special present.

The Thoughtful Handmade Painting

Gomez described how Swift, 36, created a beautiful painting on cloth canvas featuring a serene nighttime lake scene with the moon shining brightly. "She painted a beautiful lake," Gomez explained. "It was at night and the moon was there. In the stars, she painted our exact star signs."

The Only Murders In The Building star emphasized the incredible personal touch Swift added to the gift. "She did it on an actual cloth. She sewed every letter. It was the sweetest gift," Gomez said with evident awe. The painting included a stitched message reading: "Here's to the next 30 years."

Benny Blanco, 37, who hosted the podcast episode, was equally impressed by Swift's artistic talent. He remarked that the painting was "like one of the best paintings I've ever seen," highlighting the exceptional quality of the handmade gift.

Musical Tributes to Their Friendship

During the same podcast episode, which was shared via YouTube on Tuesday, Gomez confirmed that Swift's song Dorothea from her 2020 album Evermore was written about their friendship. When asked if she connects with Swift's music on a deeper level because of their shared history, Gomez responded emphatically: "A million percent."

Gomez reflected on how she and Swift grew up together while navigating fame at young ages. "I feel like a lot of huge moments that were self-defining, from relationships to family to love to hate, all of it in between, we were figuring it out," she explained. "Because I was 15 and she was 18, and we didn't really know what was going on. And so we've never seen each other any differently."

Listening to Dorothea now, Gomez said she's struck by how perfectly Swift captured their bond. "So when I listen to it, I'm so impressed how it's eloquently put," she mused.

Fan Theories and Additional Revelations

When Dorothea debuted on Swift's 2020 album, fans quickly began analyzing the lyrics. One particular line – "You're a queen sellin' dreams/Sellin' makeup and magazines" – sparked widespread belief that the song referenced Gomez's successful beauty empire, Rare Beauty. At the time of the album's release, neither star directly confirmed this theory.

Swift had described Evermore as a blend of fact and fiction, explaining that she created "17 tales, some of which are mirrored or intersecting with one another." She previously characterized Dorothea as "the girl who left her small town to chase down Hollywood dreams – and what happens when she comes back for the holidays and rediscovers an old flame."

Gomez also revealed that Swift wrote another unreleased song called Family about their friendship over a decade ago. "Insinuating in the lyrics without quoting it, it is basically saying you have these amazing dreams, you want to be in movies, like in every crowd, I still see you," she told listeners. "And then her part was, you know, you still believe in my stupid dreams like playing stadiums."

Reflecting on how both their dreams have since come true, Gomez added emotionally: "And now when I listen to that song, both of those things – it makes me want to cry – have happened for us." She concluded: "And that's really sweet because back then she was just like, 'I just wrote this song about us.' It was just like, our story kind of, and it was just the sweetest thing so I love it."

The two stars have maintained a close friendship dating back to the early 2000s, supporting each other through their respective careers and personal journeys in the spotlight.
