Secret Lives of Gypsy Wives: Trewley Precious and family shine in new reality show
Secret Lives of Gypsy Wives: Trewley Precious family shine

Channel 4 has found a standout star in Trewley Precious, a TikTok influencer and member of the Traveller community who now fronts the new reality series Secret Lives of Gypsy Wives. Alongside her four siblings and mother Tina, Trewley brings charisma and humour to the screen, describing her family as "like the Kardashians if they were broke! If the Kardashians were fat and on benefits!"

A family like no other

The family grew up on a deprived council estate, where they painted their house pink. Tina, who is not a Traveller, insisted on staying in one place to raise her children, despite her husband's wanderlust. She has lived there for 40 years. Ruby-Anne lives with Tina, Trewley resides in a pink chalet in the garden, and the other sisters married young and live nearby. Brother Jamie became an estate agent, much to the dismay of his father Sidney.

Sidney died less than three years ago, and the family remains deeply affected. They still buy presents from him for Tina's birthday. "To my Teenie. Happy birthday, old girl. Thank you for looking after our babies. I love you in this life and the next," reads a message from Trewley. The family shares a moment of grief before laughter returns.

Ambition and tradition

Trewley, 25, aspires to build an empire rather than marry or have children at this stage. Brand collaborations are beginning to generate income, though she won't disclose amounts. She also wants a belly button piercing, which is against Traveller norms. Her friend Robyn warns, "Your mum will fucking rip it out of you." Tina indeed throws Trewley out until the piercing is removed, but Trewley persists with her ambitions.

The show also reveals darker truths about their life on the breadline. Trewley recalls how after her father's death, "Everyone [on the estate] was waiting for their benefits to hit so they could buy us milk." She states matter-of-factly, "You either stay on that estate and slowly die or you go to prison. And I don't want that for my life."

Secret Lives of Gypsy Wives airs on Channel 4, offering a blend of humour and poignant moments from a family navigating tradition and change.
