Hollyoaks star Sarah Jayne Dunn has publicly voiced her disappointment after being overlooked for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing. The actress, best known for playing Mandy Richardson on the Channel 4 soap from 1996 to 2021, spent months actively lobbying for a spot on the BBC dance competition.
Manifesting a Dream Role
Dunn had been manifesting her participation in the show, a process she described as publicly declaring her ambition. Despite only a handful of contestants being confirmed so far for the series, which launches in September, Dunn took to social media to share her feelings about not being among them.
In an Instagram post, she wrote: 'Well, this chapter didn't end the way I'd hoped. Of course I'm disappointed. I wanted this more than I can put into words.' She added that the experience of openly pursuing her dream was empowering: 'But if this journey has taught me anything, it's that saying your dreams out loud isn't something to be embarrassed about. It's brave. It's vulnerable. And whether you get the outcome you're hoping for or not, there's something really powerful about backing yourself.'
Overwhelming Support from Fans
Dunn acknowledged the overwhelming support she received from fans during her campaign. 'Over the last few months I've been overwhelmed by your support. From every message, comment and share, to seeing my name mentioned on TV and radio… this journey has already given me more than I ever expected,' she said.
Despite the setback, the actress remains determined. She stated: 'But I also won't be quietly talking myself out of the possibility that one day I will. Dreams don't always arrive on our timeline. That doesn't mean they're over. Thank you for coming on this journey with me. Here's to whatever comes next… and to always asking, “Why not me?” Manifesting continues… just with a different date.'
Confirmed Contestants So Far
While Dunn has missed out this year, the BBC has already announced several celebrities for the upcoming series. The first star confirmed was EastEnders icon Lacey Turner, known for her role as Stacey Slater. Love Island's Dani Dyer will return after injuring herself last year. Eurovision star and Neighbours actress Delta Goodrem was the third cast member, followed by celebrity hair stylist Chris Appleton.
