Sarah Hadland Gushes Over Maduka Okoye on Live TV

BBC actress Sarah Hadland was left red-faced on live television after gushing over Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye during an appearance on ITV's This Morning, only to be reminded that Nigeria had not qualified for the 2026 World Cup.

Hadland's Flustered Admiration

When asked if she would be watching the World Cup, the 55-year-old Miranda star became visibly flushed and replied: "I will be watching now I've seen the Nigerian goalkeeper. Have you seen him?! Wowee, thank you very much!"

After a panel member said "We're sitting right here," Hadland continued: "I mean, I know you are, and I wish he was... I mean, he's absolutely gorgeous." She added: "I don't care if he can do Shakespeare. Looking lovely in a tight top, thank you."

When joked that "He's not watching," Hadland fanned herself and said: "I've got very hot... He might be, he might be! Maduka, if you're watching."

Okoye's Rise to Fame

Okoye, 26, stands at 6ft6 and plays as a goalkeeper for Udinese in Serie A. He gained international attention during Nigeria's friendly with Portugal, where he kept Cristiano Ronaldo at bay for most of the match, though Nigeria lost 2-1. Social media users quickly dubbed him the "sexiest footballer in the world" due to his looks.

Okoye himself addressed the newfound admiration, telling Ahlan Dubai: "Honestly, I think I was not prepared for this because it was quite big. I have had some viral moments here and there, but nothing like this."

Nigeria's World Cup Absence

Despite Hadland's hopes, Nigeria did not qualify for the 2026 World Cup in North America. The Super Eagles reached the second round of qualifying but were eliminated by DR Congo in a penalty shootout. DR Congo, meanwhile, have struggled in the tournament, with a 1-1 draw against Portugal and a 1-0 loss to Colombia, leaving them third in Group K. They need a heavy win over Uzbekistan and a Portugal loss to Colombia to advance.
