Sarah Ferguson's 'Real Reaction' to Losing Royal Title in Epstein Scandal
Sarah Ferguson's Reaction to Losing Royal Title in Epstein Scandal

Sarah Ferguson was reportedly unperturbed by the loss of her royal title last year during the Epstein Files scandal, according to a source. The former Duchess of York, 66, lost her title in October 2025 after her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, agreed to cease using his own titles following the release of the Epstein Files. These files appeared to show that Andrew maintained contact with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein even after Epstein's conviction for child sex offences. Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing and the accusations against him.

Pressure on the Royal Family

As the scandal intensified pressure on the Royal Family's image, Andrew agreed to relinquish his official titles, including the Duke of York title, last year. This decision meant that his ex-wife Sarah, whom he divorced in 1996, also lost her Duchess of York title. A source told HELLO! magazine at the time that Sarah was comfortable with the change and supported Andrew's decision.

The source noted that the title made little practical difference to her, as she was often referred to as Sarah Ferguson or 'Fergie' in professional circles rather than as a duchess. The source said: "She will always support her former husband's decisions and do anything for the King. For her, this will not make a big difference."

Andrew's Statement

Prince Andrew's statement announcing the decision read: "In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family. I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life. With His Majesty's agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me."

Low Profile

Both Andrew and Sarah, who live separately, have maintained low profiles this year. The former duchess has been keeping out of the public eye following the loss of her title.
