Sarah Ferguson has not travelled to Portugal to meet her new granddaughter, the Daily Express understands, and has not left her secret residence for several months.
The former Duchess of York was last photographed in April at a luxury ski resort in the Austrian Alps. While it remains unconfirmed if she is still residing there, sources confirm she has not travelled to Lisbon, where her newest granddaughter, Adelaide Brooksbank, was born on August 3.
Low profile following Epstein revelations
Ms Ferguson has kept a low profile following damaging fresh details regarding her connection to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. She has continuously denied all wrongdoing.
It was recently reported that Ms Ferguson flew to the country to meet Adelaide, and spend time with her grandsons, August, 5, and Ernest Brooksbank, 3. The Brooksbank family currently split their time between the UK and Portugal, as Jack works with property tycoon Mike Meldman on a luxury coastal development, the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club.
Eugenie announces birth
Sharing a new picture of her daughter, Eugenie wrote: "Two weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world. And since then we've had the most special, cosy and love-filled time. We are so happy to share Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank. Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her great-grandmother who we hold close in our hearts. Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home. Augie and Ernie are already the best big brothers."
When Eugenie announced the birth on August 4, she shared a photograph of the baby in a pink babygrow holding Jack's finger. She wrote: "Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!! We are beyond in love with our girlie."
Buckingham Palace confirmed that Eugenie gave birth to her daughter at a hospital in Lisbon. A statement from the Palace read: "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, born on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 6.20pm, at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal. The baby was born weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces. Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family were delighted to be informed of the news."
Ferguson's past association with Epstein
The former Duchess of York has been keeping a low profile since the extent of her contact with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein came to light through the release of various emails in the US Department of Justice's release of the Epstein Files. Ms Ferguson has not personally commented on the emails included in the files; however, her spokesman issued a statement after one email from 2011 in which she called the paedophile a "supreme friend" emerged.
In an interview from the time, the former Duchess said her involvement with Epstein had been a "gigantic error of judgment". Promising that she would never have anything to do with Epstein again, she said: "I abhor paedophilia and any sexual abuse of children. I cannot state more strongly that I know a terrible, terrible error of judgment was made, my having anything to do with Jeffrey Epstein. What he did was wrong, and for which he was rightly jailed."
However, shortly afterwards, Ms Ferguson sent an email to Epstein apologising for distancing herself from him. The email, which emerged last September, read: "As you know, I did not, absolutely not, say the 'P word' [paedophilia] about you but understand it was reported that I did. I know you feel hellaciously let down by me. You have always been a steadfast, generous and supreme friend to me and my family."
After the email emerged last year, Ms Ferguson's spokesman issued a statement. It began: "The Duchess spoke of her regret about her association with Epstein many years ago, and as they have always been, her first thoughts are with his victims. Like many people, she was taken in by his lies. As soon as she was aware of the extent of the allegations against him, she not only cut off contact but condemned him publicly, to the extent that he then threatened to sue her for defamation for associating him with paedophilia. She does not resile from anything she said then. This email was sent in the context of advice the Duchess was given to try to assuage Epstein and his threats."
