Sara Cox was all smiles as she enjoyed her farewell lunch with colleagues on the BBC Radio 2 drivetime show, before she takes over from Scott Mills on the breakfast show.
Farewell Celebrations
Dressed casually in a white cardigan, the 51-year-old TV and radio presenter appeared to be enjoying the celebrations at a Devonshire pub with her pals and soon-to-be former colleagues. Taking to social media, Sara marked her departure with a series of snaps, including ones of her sitting in the studio smiling broadly for the camera with her work pals. She captioned the post: "7 and a half years of silliness all wrapped up with some Pato Banton and a booze free Guinness."
She added: "Thank you for listening to teatime @bbcradio2 – the larking about & general daftness will continue soon on The Sara Cox Breakfast Show…. (Please come with me!)"
Scott Mills' Departure
In April, it was announced that Sara was set to take over from Scott, who was sacked from his coveted role in March following allegations about his personal conduct. Scott was axed from the broadcaster after fresh information about a police investigation from 2018 emerged. Along with his radio position, Scott was also forced to step down from his role on a spin-off podcast of Race Across The World, a show he won on the celebrity version in 2024.
Sara's Reaction
Addressing her new role, Sara said: "There are not enough adjectives to really sum up how I’m feeling about being trusted with such an iconic show but let’s start with ecstatic, honoured and incredibly chuffed. It’s been a dream to host the Breakfast Show since I joined Radio 2 and it feels like a bit of a full circle for me."
She went on to say: "I’ve had the most glorious seven years of my career on Teatime so thank you to my brilliant Teatime listeners who hopefully will join me at Breakfast for excellent music and all my usual nonsense plus some superstar guests. I honestly can’t wait to wake the nation up with the biggest most fun breakfast show ever."
Legal Action
Back in May, it was reported that Scott was set to take legal action against the BBC, according to the Mail on Sunday. The publication claimed that the TV and radio personality believed he was wrongly sacked, and it was further reported that his legal team at the law firm Level Law were in contact with the broadcaster at that time.
