Sara Cox has revealed the insult she received from Liam Gallagher after she offended his wife. The BBC radio presenter, 51, fronted The Girlie Show for Channel 4 in the late 1990s, and she hosted a segment where she took aim at Emmerdale star Patsy Kensit, who was married to Liam at the time.
The item was called 'W**ker of the Week' and saw Sara report on anyone in the public eye who she felt deserved to be called out for something they had done. She said: "I was absolutely buzzing that they liked my writing. It would be a minute-and-a-half takedown of someone in the public eye, be it Chris Evans or Liam Gallagher. And then I did Patsy Kensit."
Confrontation at an Event
Sara then spotted the Oasis singer at an event and went to go to introduce herself to him as a fan, but he was "really miffed" at what she had said on air and had a few choice words of his own for her. "I don’t know why I went over - I’d called his wife a w**ker on the telly the week before. I was completely fearless," she told The Sun. "He was, like, ‘Yeah, you can f* off, you s**g!’ I don’t know what else I was expecting. [Oasis] were huge, but I was, like, ‘Well, that’s ruined Definitely, Maybe for the foreseeable."
But almost three decades later, all is well as Sara explained there is "no ill will" between them, and acknowledged that so much time had passed since anyway.
New Radio 2 Breakfast Show
The broadcaster recently started hosting The Sara Cox Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2, taking over the slot previously occupied by Scott Mills. On her first day in her new role, Sara had Hollywood icon Tom Hanks as a guest and she was quick to praise the film star. During an appearance on Morning Live, Sara admitted: "He was so lovely. I mean he accidentally rebranded my show - it's the Sara Cox Breakfast Show but he was calling it like Sara in the Morning on the Morning Show which we've now made into a jingle, of course, because he's Hollywood royalty and can rebrand what he likes. He's the boss! He was an absolute gent. It was lovely."
The mum-of-three continued by revealing that other famous guests joining her this week include Olivia Rodrigo and Matt Damon. She joked: "They are letting me talk to celebrities, which is brave and exciting."
BBC bosses have said Sara's new show will "feature a fresh new format, packed with all the fun and games you expect with Sara, with the listeners at the heart of the show." They added: "She will be bringing all your favourite bits from the afternoon, alongside plenty of brand-new breakfast treats to start your day. Plus, she’ll welcome some of the world’s biggest stars into her studio for exclusive chats and memorable moments."
