Sara Cox Praises Patsy Kensit's Classy Response to Her Cruel Comment
Sara Cox Praises Patsy Kensit's Classy Response

Sara Cox has praised Patsy Kensit after making a 'vile' comment about her on live TV decades ago. The Radio 2 host, now 51, made the jibe when the Emmerdale star was married to Liam Gallagher on Channel 4's The Girlie Show, which Cox presented at age 21.

Cox's Cruel Comment and Backstage Encounter

While live on the programme, which featured segments including 'W****r of the Week', Cox told Kensit: 'Your lips are like your knees. They never meet.' Shortly after, Cox saw Liam Gallagher backstage at Top of the Pops. 'He wasn't overly impressed with me,' Cox admitted. 'I was quietly devastated because I loved Oasis.'

Patsy's Classy Response

Speaking to The Times, Cox recalled a later encounter at Nobu restaurant. 'I went to Nobu and Patsy Kensit was there and she waved me over. She was so friendly and classy. It was either the ultimate kill-it-with-kindness or she hadn't seen the telly or she just thought I was young and silly and who cares? I've always really respected her after that.'

Cox's Career Evolution

Cox rose to fame writing her own monologues on The Girlie Show, one of Channel 4's most popular offerings. As part of the 'ladette' scene with Zoe Ball, the Boltonian frequently made headlines and partied hard. Now a mother of three, Cox is married to marketing executive Ben Cyzer after splitting from DJ Carter. She has just secured the coveted Radio 2 Breakfast Show slot, starting on 6 July at 6:30am.

Ready for the Breakfast Show

Speaking about her new role, Cox said: 'It's huge, but I'm ready. I might have to bury my phone in my neighbour's sandpit a couple of days before because I don't like people texting me good luck, but the minute I open my mic, I'll be fine.' Her first guest will be Tom Hanks. Cox takes over from Gary Davies, who filled in after Scott Mills was taken off air following allegations over 'historic behaviour'.
