Sara Cox Emotional Farewell from BBC Radio 2 Drivetime

Sara Cox marked her final BBC Radio 2 drivetime show with a celebration lunch and an emotional social media farewell, as she prepares to take over from Scott Mills on the breakfast programme.

Farewell Lunch with Colleagues

The 51-year-old TV and radio host was beaming as she savoured her farewell lunch with colleagues at a Devonshire pub, sporting a relaxed white cardigan. She shared photographs on social media, including shots of herself grinning in the studio with her team.

She captioned the post: "7 and a half years of silliness all wrapped up with some Pato Banton and a booze free Guinness." She added: "Thank you for listening to teatime @bbcradio2 – the larking about and general daftness will continue soon on The Sara Cox Breakfast Show.... (Please come with me! )"

New Role and Scott Mills' Departure

Sara will take a few weeks' break before starting her new role next month. In April, it was revealed she would succeed Scott, who was dismissed in March following allegations of personal conduct. A source told The Sun: "Sara has been handed the top job and it's official, she is the new host of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show. This is something the BBC have always had lined up for her and she could not be more excited."

Scott was removed after new details emerged regarding a police investigation from 2018. He also had to relinquish his role on a spin-off podcast of Race Across The World, which he won in 2024.

Sara's Excitement

Speaking about her new position, Sara said: "There are not enough adjectives to really sum up how I'm feeling about being trusted with such an iconic show but let's start with ecstatic, honoured and incredibly chuffed. It's been a dream to host the Breakfast Show since I joined Radio 2 and it feels like a bit of a full circle for me."

She continued: "I've had the most glorious seven years of my career on Teatime, so thank you to my brilliant Teatime listeners who hopefully will join me at Breakfast for excellent music and all my usual nonsense plus some superstar guests. I honestly can't wait to wake the nation up with the biggest most fun breakfast show ever."

Legal Action

In May, it emerged that Scott was preparing to pursue legal action against the BBC, believing he had been unfairly dismissed. His legal representatives at Level Law were in contact with the broadcaster at that time.
