Sara Cox Reaffirms Commitment to Morning Live

Sara Cox has confirmed that she will continue to be a part of BBC's Morning Live despite her new role as host of Radio 2's Breakfast Show. The 51-year-old broadcaster made her first guest appearance on the daytime programme since her promotion on Tuesday, 7 July 2026, joining via video link from her radio studio.

Cox took over Radio 2's flagship breakfast slot on Monday, 6 July, replacing Scott Mills, who was sacked by the BBC after a Metropolitan Police investigation into historic allegations of serious sexual offences. Gary Davies had been providing temporary cover following Mills' exit.

Guest Appearance on Morning Live

Appearing on Morning Live alongside presenters Helen Skelton and Rav Wilding, Cox addressed her ongoing relationship with the show. Rav introduced her by saying: "As The One Show celebrates 20 years, it's only the second day of Radio 2's new Breakfast Show with our own Sara Cox."

Helen Skelton added: "You're not ours to be proud of but we're claiming you. We're very proud of you. It was blooming brilliant," referring to Cox's first Breakfast Show, which aired just hours after England's World Cup victory against Mexico.

Cox responded: "It was a bit funny for my first ever show... by the way, I'll always be a part of the Morning Live family, please..." Helen interjected: "Yes you will!"

First Day Highlights

Cox recounted her inaugural day in the new role, which included a guest appearance from Hollywood star Tom Hanks. She said: "He was so lovely. I mean he accidentally rebranded my show - it's the Sara Cox Breakfast Show but he was calling it like Sara in the Morning on the Morning Show which we've now made into a jingle, of course, because he's Hollywood royalty and can rebrand what he likes. He's the boss! He was an absolute gent. It was lovely."

The mother-of-three also revealed that upcoming guests on her show this week include Olivia Rodrigo and Matt Damon. She joked: "They are letting me talk to celebrities, which is brave and exciting."

Scheduling Logistics

Cox's new Radio 2 show concludes at 9:30am each day, the same time Morning Live begins on BBC One. She regularly stands in as a host on the programme, which is typically fronted by Gethin Jones. Meanwhile, The One Show presenter Alex Jones has been covering Radio 2's Drivetime slot, which finishes at 7pm as The One Show begins.
