Made in Chelsea's Sam Vanderpump has disclosed that he has been diagnosed with end-stage liver disease, an irreversible condition that may require a liver transplant to extend his life. The 28-year-old reality star, nephew of Lisa Vanderpump, shared the news during an emotional conversation with co-star Ollie Locke on Monday night's episode of the Channel 4 show.
Vanderpump, who is engaged to model Alice Yaxley and expecting their first child, said doctors told him there is no hope of his liver recovering and that his life expectancy could be just four to five years without a transplant. He is now undergoing assessment for a liver transplant, though he acknowledged that others who cannot survive surgery will be prioritised on the waiting list.
The star previously suffered a near-death experience earlier this year after liver and kidney failure led to sepsis and hospitalisation over Christmas. Doctors credited his fiancée with saving his life by calling an ambulance. He has since become an ambassador for the UK Sepsis Trust and has spoken about struggling with health anxiety following the ordeal.
