Reality star Sam Thompson accompanied his sister Louise to Parliament on Wednesday, where she spoke about her harrowing birth trauma ordeal. Louise, 35, nearly died in 2021 during the birth of her son Leo-Hunter, requiring an emergency caesarean and losing 12.5 litres of blood. She later developed post-traumatic stress disorder and postnatal anxiety.
Since the traumatic birth, Louise has been diagnosed with lupus and Asherman's syndrome. She has also suffered a second haemorrhage and needed a stoma bag fitted. In Parliament, she addressed the Birth Trauma APPG, a group that raises awareness of physical and psychological harm from childbirth.
Sam Thompson spoke about the impact of the experience on himself and other close family members. After the meeting, the siblings posed for a photo with Theo Clarke, founder of the Global Birth Trauma Alliance and former Chair of the UK's Birth Trauma Inquiry.
The appearance comes months after Louise shared details of a miscarriage she suffered over a year ago. She wrote about it in her book 'Lucky', describing the writing process as cathartic. On Instagram, she posted a positive pregnancy test and revealed she had only told a handful of people about the loss.
Louise said she often finds it easier to write about such experiences than to speak them aloud, and that sharing can feel 'quite liberating'. She added that one trauma has often been quickly replaced by another, and she has not discussed the miscarriage in detail even with her partner Ryan.
