Sally Nugent has sparked concerns among viewers that she may have left BBC Breakfast after being absent from the programme for two days and taking on a new television role. The 52-year-old presenter usually hosts the morning show alongside Jon Kay from Monday to Wednesday, but her recent absence led to speculation on social media.
Fans voiced their worries on X, formerly Twitter, with one asking, 'Oh has Sally left Breakfast?' Another wrote, 'Good use of the BBC breakfast sofa! Will miss @sallynugent on breakfast.' A third added, 'Most excellent but does this disrupt my early morning viewing when I expect to see you and @sallynugent on the sofa.'
However, Jon Kay quickly dismissed the rumours with a simple post: 'Nooooooooo!!!!!' The confusion arose after Sally anchored the BBC News at One from Manchester on Monday afternoon, a programme that has recently moved to Salford as part of BBC News changes. The News at One is now an hour-long bulletin, making it the first daily network TV news outside London.
A team of regular presenters, including Ben Brown, Anna Foster, Tina Daheley, Jon, and Sally, will lead the programme from Salford. Sally presented the first edition. John McAndrew, director of news programmes, said the move 'delivers on our commitments to provide a news service that serves and reflects all communities across the UK.'
Despite her new role, Sally appeared on Breakfast on Monday to honour rugby league star Rob Burrow, who has MND. Visibly moved, she said, 'What matters is talking about that man. We have seen him as a player, we have seen that strength. He was 5ft 5ins, but we all should have known what a powerhouse he was.'
