Rylan Clark has revealed his mum Linda has suffered a new injury, following a turbulent few years for her health. After taking a break from his BBC Radio 2 show, the 37-year-old returned to hosting duties last weekend and disclosed that his mum was also back for their weekly exchange.
Presenter shares update on air
Ahead of welcoming her to the show, the presenter revealed that she had “scraped her leg”. Referencing her past health struggles, he added: “I’m just like, okay, yep, here we go, another issue — but I’m sure she’ll be fine.”
Later in the programme, the 74-year-old, who has previously joined Rylan on Celebrity Gogglebox, said she was fine before urging him to stop telling people about her latest incident. He replied, calling her “a nightmare walking”, referencing a series of past accidents.
Mum's string of health struggles
After explaining that the injury happened while she was doing a job at home, she said she would no longer try to take on tasks alone. “You said that before when you broke your arm and leg just falling over,” he said, to which she replied: “I get bored and I need to do things.”
Linda's latest injury comes after a difficult few years with her health. In 2023, her holiday in Spain was cut short when she fell and broke her arm and leg. Rylan subsequently paid for a private jet to bring her home so she could receive further medical attention.
Past accidents recalled
Detailing the ordeal on his radio show at the time, he said: “Unfortunately, I decided to take Mummy Linda on holiday. She's not been away for 10 years and what did she go and do? Falls over and breaks an arm and leg. Classic Linda, classic Linda. Now a little broken arm and a leg, I can deal with that but when you take that up with everything else that is wrong with her? Nightmare, especially abroad.”
“But we are both back, Mummy Linda is home safe and sound, she is recovering, she’s chilling out. There’s honestly, for want for a better term, I don’t mean this in a rude way, it’s like someone’s died. The amount of people that have been around the house, there’s flowers. It’s all gone on. All the neighbours come out. It was like someone had come home from war,” he continued.
He added: “My priority at the moment is my mum.” Rylan went on to praise the hospital Linda attended, as well as the medical staff, for their help.
Earlier this year, Linda suffered a fractured shoulder after slipping on ice while taking out the rubbish. This came after she fell down a shop escalator and required medical treatment.
Rylan's BBC Radio 2 show airs Saturdays from 3pm.
