Rylan Clark, 37, has apologised to fans after missing his BBC Radio 2 show on Saturday, admitting it was 'so unprofessional'. The presenter, who began hosting his show in 2019, got stranded in Nice, France, and was unable to return to the UK in time for his three-hour slot, which airs weekly from 3pm to 6pm.
Travel Chaos in Nice
Clark explained that he had planned to catch an early flight home, but his plans collapsed at the last minute. 'I was flying back very early this morning,' he recalled on Emma Willis' Radio 2 show. 'Went to the airport, and it was like, 'No!' And I was like, 'Sorry?'' He added that at one point he considered an eight-hour train journey, which still would have made him late for work but would have got him home that day.
The former X Factor presenter also joked that he tried to get on a different flight by playing the 'so you know who I am?' line. When Clark was unable to make it, Mark Goodier stepped in to cover the show.
Social Media Apology
Clark later posted an apology on his Instagram Story, writing: 'Soz about today's show. I blame everyone but myself. Genuinely had it all sussed out and then flights all cancelled. Thanks Mark for stepping in you legend. Gonna have a rosé and think of you all.' He also said on social media that it was 'so unprofessional'.
Strictly Come Dancing Hosting Snub
The travel debacle comes after Clark spoke out about being turned down for a role presenting Strictly Come Dancing, saying it 'wasn't my time sadly'. He posted a joke video of himself crying after it was announced that former professional dancer Johannes Radebe, comedian Josh Widdecombe, and presenter Emma Willis would present the BBC dancing show from its 2026 series.
In an Instagram post, Clark said: 'Just wanted to say as it was reported I was in 'the race' for strictly, the biggest congrats to my Emma and equal congrats to Johannes and Josh. You're all going to have the best time. Made up for yous.' He added: 'This wasn't my time sadly but am extremely grateful to even have been considered. I'm taking the news really well (see next slide) but genuinely looking forward to the new series with you three.' In a comment on the post, he added: 'Let's keep this what it is. A genuine happiness for the three of them.'
Former Strictly presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who announced their departure from the programme in October 2025, have praised their successors, with Daly describing them as 'the ultimate trio', and Winkleman calling them 'magnificent'.
