In a shocking and deeply personal revelation, former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas has bravely spoken out about a two-year stalking ordeal that left him in a state of constant fear and anxiety.
The actor, famed for his role as Jason Grimshaw on the iconic ITV soap, described the experience as "horrific" and confessed he "genuinely feared for his life" at the height of the campaign of harassment.
A Terrifying Campaign of Harassment
The nightmare began for Ryan and his family when a woman named Lucy May became fixated on him. The situation escalated rapidly from unwanted messages to more sinister and threatening behaviour.
"It was a two-year period of my life that was horrific," Ryan disclosed. "It was a really, really scary time for me and my family. I genuinely feared for my life at one point." The severity of the threat forced the actor to take extreme measures to protect his home and loved ones, including the installation of comprehensive CCTV security systems.
The Emotional Toll and Legal Resolution
Ryan detailed the immense psychological impact the stalking had on him, explaining how the constant fear and invasion of privacy affected his mental wellbeing and his ability to live a normal life.
The situation was finally brought to a close through the legal system. Lucy May was convicted of stalking involving serious alarm and distress at Manchester Magistrates' Court. She was handed a 12-month community order, which includes a mental health treatment requirement and a rehabilitation activity requirement. Crucially, a five-year restraining order was also put in place, legally prohibiting her from any contact with Ryan or his family.
While relieved the ordeal is over, Ryan's story serves as a stark reminder of the very real dangers and profound emotional distress that public figures can face from obsessive individuals.
