Russell T Davies, the former BBC Doctor Who writer, has spoken publicly for the first time about his relationship with his partner Oliver Cole. The 63-year-old screenwriter debuted his romance with the 27-year-old Australian waiter on Christmas Day last year.
Speaking on the Reasons To Be Joyful with Gaby Roslin podcast, Davies described himself as "very lucky" to have found love again. He said: "He's beautiful, isn't he? I'm very lucky." Davies added that it had been a year since they started talking, calling it "a great surprise and very lovely."
The writer was widowed eight years ago following the death of his husband, Andrew Smith, in 2018. The pair had entered a civil partnership in 2012 after two decades together. Smith was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2011 and given a three per cent chance of recovery, prompting Davies to take two and a half years off work to care for him.
Davies made his relationship with Cole public with a festive post on Christmas Day. In June, to mark Cole's 27th birthday, Davies took him to the Doctor Who set and gave him a ride in the iconic Tardis.
