Rolf Harris, the disgraced entertainer, died on May 10, 2023, at the age of 93 from neck cancer and frailty of old age. His death was not publicly confirmed until two weeks later, after he had been cremated in a small, private ceremony.
Conviction and Prison Sentence
In 2014, Harris was convicted of 12 counts of indecent assault against four victims aged between eight and 19. He was sentenced to five years and nine months in prison. He served almost three years at HM Prison Stafford before being released on licence in 2017.
New Documentary on Prime Video
A new documentary, Rolf Harris: Primetime Predator, has been released on Prime Video. It features never-before-seen interviews with survivors, giving some of his victims a voice for the first time. The two-part series traces Harris's rise from Perth to international fame and exposes decades of abuse behind the scenes. According to the synopsis, it examines "how charisma, institutional loyalty and cultural reverence allowed a predator to flourish".
Final Years
After his release from prison, Harris spent his final years as a recluse in Bray, Berkshire, with his wife Alwen Hughes. He remained largely out of the public eye until his death.
