Sir Rod Stewart was forced to cancel his show in Niagara Falls, Canada on Tuesday (August 4) due to concerns over the aircraft that would be taking him to the event. The 81-year-old rocker cancelled his concert just hours before he was due to take to the stage, and has apologised to his fans.
Mechanical fault with aircraft landing gear
He broke the news on his Instagram Stories in a post that read: "Important information about tonight's show. Due to a mechanical fault with the aircraft's landing gear, Rod Stewart is regretfully unable to travel to Niagara Falls and must postpone tonight's performance at Fallsview Casino Resort. Rod is deeply disappointed and apologises to fans for the inconvenience."
The show will be rescheduled for next year. The statement added: "He looks forward to returning for the rescheduled performance on Thursday, March 4, 2027 where he promises to make it up to his fans. Purchased tickets will be honoured for the rescheduled date. Existing complimentary reservations will be cancelled."
Fans express frustration on social media
Gutted fans took to social media and shared their disappointment, as an X user fumed: "Drove from Toronto to Niagara Falls... And @rodstewart cancelled. FFS." (sic) Another tweeted: "Mechanical issues with the aircraft forced Rod Stewart to postpone his concert on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls Wednesday night, too."
Another added: "Had an overnight trip from Hell. Took my Gran down to Niagara Falls to see a concert. We check in the hotel, go down to the restaurant for dinner, and 2 hrs before the show starts, get the notification that it's been canceled. Lovely. Already paid for the room so we're staying."
Series of cancellations this year
Sir Rod has had a bit of a nightmare with regards to cancelled performances this year. In June he pulled out of a California concert on medical advice, after being diagnosed with an acute upper respiratory infection that resulted in laryngitis. But he came under fire after he was spotted at a World Cup match just hours later.
Rod acknowledged on talkSPORT that he shouldn't have gone to the game, but he didn't want to let two of his sons down. "It wasn't a good look, I admit, but I'm going to have to just take the stick," he added. Rod also cancelled two shows in May while recovering from a sinus infection.
