Robson Green, the well-known North East actor, recently took a break from filming the new BBC crime drama The Northumbria Mysteries to grab a coffee at T's Cakes and Bakes, a five-star rated café in Rothbury, Northumberland. The café's owner, Tina, shared a photo of Green behind the counter with staff on Facebook, expressing delight at the visit.
Filming Locations and the New Drama
Green is starring in The Northumbria Mysteries, a new BBC detective series set in the North East. He plays Joe Ridley, an ex-convict and gambler with ties to the criminal underworld, who teams up with Oxford-educated DI Rose O'Connell to solve crimes. The show has been filming across Northumberland, including locations such as Morpeth, Seahouses, and Rothbury, where production took place last week. Co-star Gurjeet Singh, known for Ackley Bridge and Three Girls, was also seen filming in Rothbury, a town that hosted Danny Boyle in 2024 for 28 Years Later.
The Coffee Break at T's Cakes and Bakes
During a break in filming at Rothbury's Turks Head Inn on Wednesday, Green visited T's Cakes and Bakes, a five-star rated café on Townfoot. Owner Tina wrote on Facebook: 'We had a new member of staff this morning… unfortunately he couldn’t stay long as he was filming around the corner! Really lovely to meet Robson, we hope he enjoyed his skinny flat white!'
Anticipation for the Series
While no transmission date has been announced for The Northumbria Mysteries, buzz around the show has grown due to sightings of Green and his co-stars, including former Coronation Street actor Chris Gascoyne, filming at various locations. Fans of Vera are hopeful the series will fill the void left by that show's conclusion on ITV in early 2025.
