A false report claiming the death of Hollywood legend Robert Redford has been branded a 'sick hoax' by his publicist. The 79-year-old actor and director was said to have died after falling from a golf buggy in Santa Monica, California, according to a tweet from an account posing as Sky Breaking News.
The hoax prompted an outpouring of tributes on social media before being swiftly debunked. Redford's publicist, Cindi Berger, confirmed the star is alive and well, stating, 'This is a sick hoax. I just spoke to him and there is no truth to this whatsoever.'
The fake account has previously spread false death reports about other celebrities. Redford, known for iconic roles in films such as All the President's Men and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, also founded the Sundance Film Festival in Utah.
