Robbie Williams has opened up about the secret to his happy marriage with wife Ayda Field, describing their relationship as one built on mutual laughter and fondness. Speaking on Good Morning Britain, the 48-year-old singer said: “We’re dead lucky because we make each other laugh and we like each other. We’ve not stopped liking each other.”
The former Take That star also discussed his family’s approach to social media, admitting they are selective about what they share. “You’re not going to show the bits where she’s really annoyed with me and I’m really annoyed with her for being really annoyed with me for just living the way that I live,” he explained.
Williams and Field married in a secret ceremony at their Los Angeles home on 7 August 2010. The pair’s eight dogs acted as bridesmaids, and Williams performed an impromptu rendition of “Angels”, prompting a mass singalong from guests. The couple have four children: Theodora (Teddy), Charlton, Colette (Coco), and Beau, and they prioritise their children’s privacy by rarely posting images of them online.
The interview also touched on Williams’ darker periods, particularly the late 1990s when he felt he had “lost everything”. He said: “When I felt the most melancholy [was] 1995 to 2000, where I rode that train into hedonism. I lost everything - myself, my world, my life, my friends, my family, my hope.”
On being referred to as a veteran performer, Williams welcomed the label, adding: “The exact opposite to that - not being on the planet, not being around, not having my career - I wouldn’t have been able to deal with. I’m grateful.”
