With long filming schedules and intimate scenes, it is no surprise that some soap stars have fallen for each other in real life. Relationships have blossomed across rival shows, as those living in soapland just understand each other.
On Monday, it was confirmed that Toby-Alexander Smith and Amy Walsh, known for their roles on EastEnders and Emmerdale respectively, had officially married after three years together. The newlyweds met in the audience of Strictly Come Dancing back in 2019 and welcomed their first child together two years later.
But the couple are not the first soap stars to have found love with their castmates. Over the years, soapstar babies have been welcomed and lavish weddings have been had, although some romances have ended with the level of drama that rivals the soaps.
Amy and Toby-Alexander tied the knot in Montenegro at the end of August. The pair fell for each other after 'fate' brought them together when they were both in the Strictly Come Dancing audience in 2019. According to Amy, Toby was not meant to be in the audience that week. After the show, someone sent her a screenshot of them in the audience, and she joked to her best friend, 'Me and my future husband.'
Other notable soap romances include Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden, who met on Emmerdale and have three sons. They rejected the idea of their characters getting together on screen, saying it would be too much. Rob Mallard and Daniel Brocklebank confirmed their romance in 2017, with Rob calling Daniel 'the best thing I've taken home this year' at the British Soap Awards.
