Rita Ora has revealed that she lost confidence during the making of her last album, but has regained her musical mojo with the help of her husband, filmmaker Taika Waititi. The 32-year-old singer, who recently married, changed record labels and took on more TV commitments, admits she began to doubt herself.
Her new album, 'You & I', out now, is described as a 'personal letter' to fans and marks her third studio release. Ora owns the master recordings—advice she received from Prince—and co-wrote every track, converting diary entries into songs. The album features only one collaboration, Fatboy Slim, on 'Praising You', a rework of his 1998 hit.
Ora credits her husband's directorial skills for the music video of her current single, 'Don't Think Twice'. The title track 'You & I' was written the day after her wedding, while introspective songs like 'Shape of Me' are dedicated to her mother, a breast cancer survivor, and 'Girl in the Mirror' touches on therapy.
Born in Kosovo and raised in London, Ora signed with Jay-Z's Roc Nation and launched her career with hits like 'R.I.P.' and 'How We Do (Party)'. She is now preparing a deluxe version of the album and continues judging on 'The Voice: Australia'. Reflecting on her journey, Ora says she hopes the album reflects her endurance.
