Riley Keough's husband, Ben Smith-Petersen, disclosed that the couple had secretly welcomed a daughter last year during a eulogy at Lisa Marie Presley's funeral on Sunday. Smith-Petersen read a letter on behalf of his wife at the Graceland memorial service, expressing hope that Keough could love her daughter as Lisa Marie loved her children.
The revelation came as a surprise to many, as the couple had not previously announced the birth. A representative later confirmed to People magazine that Keough and Smith-Petersen are parents to a baby girl. The child is the first grandchild of Lisa Marie Presley and the first great-grandchild of Elvis and Priscilla Presley.
Lisa Marie Presley died aged 54 after being hospitalised earlier this month. Her funeral at Graceland in Memphis was attended by family, friends, and colleagues. In his eulogy, Smith-Petersen thanked Lisa Marie on behalf of Keough for giving her strength, heart, and courage, among other qualities.
