Ricky Wilson has recalled ending up in a rock 'n' roll bust-up with Johnny Rotten while armed with nothing more than an umbrella. The Kaiser Chiefs frontman found himself caught up in a huge clash involving the former Sex Pistols frontman, with crews featuring members of Foals, Bloc Party, Super Furry Animals and Kaiser Chiefs.
The Unexpected Fight
Speaking on the S****** Married Annoyed podcast, Ricky said: "I was once in a fight with Johnny Rotten. Against him."
Explaining the bizarre circumstances, he said: "It was his crew versus Foals, Bloc Party, and a couple of Super Furry Animals, and a couple of Kaiser Chiefs."
The 48-year-old revealed he had a broken leg at the time and was using the umbrella as a makeshift walking stick before things suddenly got heated. "It was just him in my face, and he went, 'Don’t bring a brolly to a knife fight'," Ricky recalled.
Rather than being intimidated by the punk icon, Ricky admitted he was secretly thrilled by the surreal moment. He laughed: "I was like, 'This is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I am in a fight with a Pistol'!"
Aftermath
Although Ricky refused to reveal what caused the clash he said nobody was seriously hurt, describing the incident as "a lot of pushing and shoving and a few bits of hitting."
After the chaos, everyone ended up in one of Foals' hotel rooms where Ricky quickly realised he may have been the only person enjoying the drama. He added: "I misjudged the situation because I came in like, 'That was amazing!' And they were like, 'That was really bad though.'"
