Richard Madeley and Kate Garraway hosted Good Morning Britain on Monday (July 27), discussing the day's biggest headlines. Later, they were joined by Vanessa Feltz and Terry Christian to talk about the Duchess of Sussex's appearance on MasterChef Australia.
Meghan Markle's MasterChef appearance
Meghan appeared as a guest judge on the Australian edition of the cooking competition. During the episode, she received a surprise phone call from Prince Harry and opted to be called Meghan rather than "duchess".
Discussing the segment, Kate Garraway said: "She served up more than just judging. She revealed her kids eat brussel sprouts and she no longer wants to be called duchess. It's certainly whipped up headlines all around the world, hasn't it?"
Richard Madeley's swipe
Richard then took a swipe at Meghan, saying: "If she doesn't want to be called duchess, why did she say, 'Cook me a meal fit for a duchess.' You can't have it both ways." He added: "Mind you, Meghan Markle tries to have it both ways all the time, doesn't she?"
After the break, Richard Arnold explained: "Meghan insisted that she did not want to be called duchess when she appeared on the show, after reports that she was unhappy about claims that the tour with Harry was cashing in on their royal links." A clip was then played where judge Poh Ling Yeow asked: "Do we call you duchess?" and Meghan replied: "Oh, call me Meghan. Absolutely."
Vanessa Feltz and viewer reactions
Vanessa Feltz then said: "And also, we all saw on With Love, Meghan when she said to Mindy Kaling, 'Why are you calling me Markle? It's Sussex now.' She very much likes to be called Sussex." Richard Arnold concluded: "So, Meghan Sussex, but definitely not duchess."
GMB viewers expressed frustration, feeling Meghan only meant not to be called duchess during the show, not overall. One person wrote on X: "We all know she meant for the TV show and not overall." Another added: "Sussex is her husband's surname - which she (like millions of others) took when she married him: Meghan Sussex is her name fgs. Also, she's still a duchess even when she's releasing others from formalities when addressing her... do better."
Elsewhere on the show, viewers praised Chris Page for his weather presenting debut.
