Red Dwarf Star Chris Barrie Provides Health Update After Medical Scare

Chris Barrie, best known for playing Arnold J. Rimmer in the BBC sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf, has given fans a positive health update after cancelling public appearances earlier this year due to a medical situation.

The 65-year-old actor had been forced to pull out of events including London Comic Con, where he was due to appear alongside co-stars Robert Llewellyn, Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules and Hattie Hayridge.

In a statement on his website, Barrie said he was discharged from hospital in early July and has been feeling stronger each day. He is not on any medication and is a month into a three-to-four-month healing process, with further diagnostic tests possible later.

Barrie added that he is currently resting at home with light tasks, but hopes to work occasional days in October if his recovery continues at the same pace. He also confirmed he still aims to attend an event in Scarborough in November.

Fans have rallied behind the actor, with one commenting: 'When I heard Chris was ill, like a lot of people, my stomach churned. It's massively good news he is recovering.' Barrie also played Gordon Brittas in The Brittas Empire.
