Claire King, known for playing Kim Tate on ITV's Emmerdale, was married to her on-screen son before a shocking discovery ended their marriage. The actress debuted as Kim in 1989 and left in 1999 for other roles, including Bad Girls and Coronation Street. She returned to Emmerdale in 2018 and now resides at Home Farm.
On-set romance and marriage
During her first stint on the show, Claire met Peter Amory, who played Chris Tate, the son of Kim's husband Frank (Norman Bowler). Romance blossomed off-screen, and the couple married in 1994, staying together for a decade.
Affair allegations
Their marriage ended after it was alleged that Peter had an affair with fellow Emmerdale actress Samantha Giles, who played Bernice Blackstock. Claire told the Mirror in 2005: "I had a feeling that something was going on. I was working in London and we were spending less and less time together. I was travelling back to Yorkshire every weekend. I remember Pete saying that I only came back to see my dogs and horses... and I thought: 'Well, yeah, and to catch you at it!'"
Claire learned of the affair from Samantha's husband, who wrote her a letter. She confronted Peter, who admitted it had been going on for a while. "He told me it was over but then it started again," she said.
Life after divorce
Claire later remarried a man who stays out of the public eye and became a stepmother to his two children. Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX.
