Radio 1 star's trousers rip before Mercury Prize

BBC Radio 1 presenter Jess Iszatt found herself in fits of laughter after her leather trousers split, exposing her bare bottom as she headed to the Mercury Prize ceremony at Newcastle's Utilita Arena on Thursday night (October 22).

Leather Trousers Split in Lift

The star, dressed to impress for the prestigious music awards, was betrayed by her choice of outfit. She captured the moment on camera, filming a clip in the lift where she turned around, bent over, and revealed the huge split in her trousers.

In the video, she said: "Guys you'll never believe this but look. I've ripped my trousers!"

She captioned the post: "POV on your way to the Mercury Prize and this happened."

Fans React with Laughter

The comments section was filled with laughing emojis. Singer June Holland commented: "I reckon if you wear it with confidence people will think it’s intentional, just the style of the pants!"

Another follower joked: "mercury prize, moon surprize.. kinda works [crying and laughing emojis]."

Despite the mishap, Jess managed to change her outfit at the last minute before attending the ceremony.

Raye Wins Mercury Prize

The awards saw Raye win for her album This Music May Contain Hope, which includes her hit "Where Is My Husband?"

Accepting the trophy on stage, she said: "I couldn't tell you how grateful I am to be holding this [trophy]. I'm shaking, I'm jet-lagged, I'm tired. It's all blurry."

She explained she "poured everything I had" into the record. She told the BBC: "I made this album not focusing on commercial [success], not focusing on making things cookie-cutter. Some of these songs are seven minutes. They're indulgent. They're maximalist."
