Royal author Robert Hardman has shared a light-hearted moment with Queen Camilla, who joked that he was 'stalking' her after they met two nights in a row. Hardman appeared on the Daily Mail's Palace Confidential podcast, where he praised Camilla, 79, for her work ethic.
Two meetings in 48 hours
Hardman recalled seeing Camilla at Heywood Hill bookshop's 90th anniversary one evening, and then at Clarence House the next day for a reception marking 40 years of the Royal Osteoporosis Society. When he greeted her again, she said: 'I think you’re stalking me.' He described her as 'great fun' and noted that while most people her age have retired, she is 'cranking up the workload.'
The podcast panel laughed at the anecdote and agreed Camilla has a strong work ethic.
Others praise Camilla's dedication
Former MP and podcaster Gyles Brandreth, a friend of Camilla, also commented on her increased workload. He told Hello! magazine: 'You might think she could slow down, but they are having to quicken the pace. But I never get the impression that she is doing it reluctantly.'
Author Catherine Mayer suggested Camilla's work ethic may stem from not having a career earlier in life. She told Hello!: 'This is a woman who really was very happy not having a career, and who liked to potter and do things that interested her, and now suddenly she has this huge role. She's lived a lot of her life in different directions to most of us.'
Brandreth also noted that Camilla celebrated her 79th birthday on July 17, adding: 'I don't think she sees birthdays as a big deal, but family is very important to her, so that is her kind of celebration…. I think the truth is, she's in a good place, though when you say to her, 'Well done, it's going so well,' she shrugs and says, 'Well, on we go.''
