Science fiction fans have been praising Christopher Nolan's Interstellar for over a decade, but many now argue that a 2026 thriller has surpassed it. Project Hail Mary, adapted from Andy Weir's 2021 novel and starring Ryan Gosling, landed in cinemas in March and is now available to stream on Prime Video, where viewers are hooked.
What Is Project Hail Mary About?
The film follows science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), who wakes up alone on a spaceship with no memory of how he got there. As his memory returns, he uncovers his mission: solve the riddle of a mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must use his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save Earth from extinction, but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone. The star-studded cast also includes Academy Award nominee Sandra Hüller.
Critical and Fan Reception
Project Hail Mary currently holds a fresh 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a significant leap above Interstellar's 73% score. Fans on the movie-rating website have shared glowing reviews. One wrote: "10/10. Project Hail Mary didn’t just meet my expectations. It completely surpassed them. I genuinely think it’s even better than Interstellar, and that’s saying a lot.
