Prince Jackson Reflects on Michael Jackson's 'Childlike' Parenting and Neverland Childhood

Michael Jackson's eldest son, Prince Jackson, has opened up about his late father's unique parenting style and 'childlike' nature, following the release of the biopic 'Michael'. The 29-year-old film producer shared memories of growing up at Neverland Ranch in California with his siblings Paris and Blanket (Bigi) Jackson.

Speaking on Sunrise, Prince described his childhood as 'magical', saying: 'Growing up at Neverland with my siblings and my father, for us, it was hanging out together as a family, but with the backdrop of elephants and giraffes walking in the background.' He added that Michael was an 'awesome' dad who would 'get down' and play with toys, making up stories and playing pranks.

Prince, who got engaged to Molly Schirmang in August 2025, said he hopes to emulate his father's parenting in his own life. He acknowledged the challenges of being the child of a global superstar but noted that his large extended family helped mitigate any feelings of isolation. 'I grew up in a big family, and so I have 40-plus cousins... I never felt lonely,' he said.

Michael Jackson died in 2009 from acute propofol intoxication when Prince was 12. Prince worked as a producer on the biopic 'Michael', which stars his cousin Jaafar Jackson. He recalled the 'emotional shock' of seeing Jaafar transformed into his father on set, saying: 'I had not seen my father in a long time. Jaafar just embodied him... I really just wanted to give him a hug.'
