Prince Harry has been given a brutal reality check as a royal expert detailed how his relationship with brother Prince William deteriorated over the years. The pair have reportedly not spoken since 2020, and William continues to reject Harry's repeated attempts to make contact. With Harry set to return to the UK next month alongside wife Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, a reconciliation between the brothers is believed to be off the cards.
Royal Expert Details the Rift
Royal author Robert Jobson spoke on The Royals Uncensored Podcast, backed by Piers Morgan, to discuss the cause of the rift. He pointed to Harry's memoir, Spare, as a one-sided argument that damaged the Royal Family's reputation. Jobson said: 'I think that the interviews he gave to Tom Bradby when they were in South Africa really upset William. He felt that that was a total betrayal. One of the most significant ones was when he said both William and the King were trapped into the job they were going to do, which I think William said, “Don't speak for me, I have given you no authority to do that.”'
Damning Comments About Catherine
Jobson also noted that the death of the Duke of Edinburgh and the late Queen's illness at the same time upset Harry. However, he added: 'But the most damning stuff, which I think William will not forgive, was what was said about Catherine, which was totally unfair and put her under enormous pressure and stress, and she was dealing with cancer.' Jobson described how William was left to deal with the prospect that his father had cancer and his wife had cancer, while caring for their three young children. 'He could have become a king as a widow, he didn't know whereas his brother is whining on things that happened years ago. He was on the therapist's couch while William was dealing with real problems,' Jobson added.
Upcoming UK Visit
The Sussexes are expected to visit the UK next month, where Harry will attend the one-year countdown event to Invictus 2027 in Birmingham. TalkTV presenter Mark Dolan suggested that Harry and Meghan's visit reveals a 'total failure' of the Sussex brand in the United States, and that the move is to 'recalibrate their royal credentials' and boost their brands after struggles with Netflix and Meghan's As Ever business. Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield said: 'I think Invictus will always give Harry a reason to come back to the UK, but whether it gives him a path back to his family is a different question entirely. I'm not so sure his family can justify a reunion because of the games.'
