Prince Harry has 'smashed' the Royal Family's circle of trust and put King Charles in a 'difficult position' ahead of his forthcoming visit to the UK, according to a royal editor. Harry is set to return to the UK with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children next month to mark the one-year countdown to his Invictus Games.
Royal editor claims Harry 'betrayed family intimacies'
Rebecca English, royal editor at the Daily Mail, told the Palace Confidential podcast: 'Charles is not a bad man. He's not an uncaring man. He loves his son, but his son has put him in a very, very difficult position.' She added: 'He has betrayed a lot of family intimacies. I don't want to use the word secrets, but it's certainly intimacies.'
English further explained: 'There's a very small circle of people the Royal Family can trust and once you're in that circle of trust you remain in it and Harry has smashed that with a hammer.'
Harry's memoir 'Spare' criticized Queen Camilla
In his memoir 'Spare', Harry branded Queen Camilla a 'villain', 'dangerous' and a 'wicked stepmother' who briefed the press against him to further her own image. He wrote: 'I had complex feelings about gaining a step parent who, I believed, had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar. In a funny way I even wanted Camilla to be happy. Maybe she'd be less dangerous if she was happy?'
He also revealed a rift between Meghan and the Princess of Wales, claiming Prince William 'pointed a finger at Meg' that prompted her to respond: 'Keep your finger out of my face!'
Senior royals concerned ahead of visit
It is believed that Harry's actions have left a bad taste in the mouths of senior royals, with Queen Camilla, Prince William and Princess Catherine all harbouring concerns ahead of the visit. The Times reported that Camilla will be 'staying well clear' of Harry and is 'unlikely to get involved' in any conversations with the Sussexes during their stay.
However, the King is understood to have made every effort to convince the family to come to the UK with their children and has offered to host them at a royal residence, although the exact one remains unknown.
