Meghan Markle has released never-before-seen images of Prince Harry with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to mark Father's Day. The photos, shared on the Duchess of Sussex's Instagram account, show Archie wearing an England football top during the ongoing World Cup in the United States, while Lilibet is seen with a giraffe teddy strapped to her back, cuddling her father.
Father's Day tribute from Meghan
In her Instagram post, Meghan wrote: "They're so lucky to have you. We all are. Happy Father's Day to our one and only." The images are the first public glimpse of the Sussex children in a family setting since the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
Potential UK visit for Invictus Games 2027
The Sussex family is expected to be united next year when they visit the UK for the Invictus Games in Birmingham. This would mark the first time the entire family has returned to the UK since stepping down as senior royals in 2020. Previously, only Prince Harry was expected to attend, as he stated in May 2023 that he found it "impossible" to bring his family to the UK after losing a legal battle for automatic security protection.
Harry said: "I can't see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point." The Sussexes were stripped of their automatic police protection when they left royal duties, and security is now assessed on a case-by-case basis. The Home Office reportedly began re-reviewing the security case last year.
Possible reunion with King Charles
Despite security concerns, reports emerged last week that Meghan and the children will join Harry for the 2027 Invictus Games, and a reunion between King Charles and the Duke may be on the cards. The King has not seen his grandchildren since the Platinum Jubilee in 2022. Reports suggest the King may speak at the Invictus Games, which would be a symbolic moment for the father and son, who have not made a joint public appearance in years.
No meeting expected with Prince William
While a reconciliation between King Charles and Prince Harry may be possible, no such meeting is expected between the estranged brothers. Prince Harry and Prince William have not seen each other since Queen Elizabeth's funeral in September 2022.
Security arrangements for the visit
Due to Harry's security concerns, The Sun reported that the family may stay at Buckingham Palace during their visit, with an insider noting it is the "safest building in Britain." A number of royal properties are being considered for their accommodation.
