Prince Harry has insisted he is not ginger, claiming his hair colour is more like 'sunset auburn', while revealing he was bullied at school and called 'carrot top'. The Duke of Sussex made the comments during an appearance on The Joe Marler Will See You Now podcast, where he also discussed his mental health, exercise routine, and a recent meeting with King Charles.
Hair Colour and School Bullying
When asked what people most often get wrong about him, Harry replied: 'Uh, that I'm not ginger.' Marler responded: 'Hang on, hang on, hang on, people get that wrong?' Harry, 41, added: 'Yeah, people think I'm ginger, but I'm more sort of like, um, sunset auburn. Yeah? I don't know why that's funny.'
As Marler laughed, co-host Jake Bhardwaj said: 'Can we not laugh at the Duke, please? Yeah.' Harry went on: 'Unless you want to, unless you want to call me ginge. You know? I got bullied a lot at school, called carrot top, right? Sorry.' Marler replied: 'I don't know why they would, uh, I... Not funny. It's not funny, you know.' Harry joked: 'I'm going to need therapy after this.'
Harry attended Wetherby School, Ludgrove School in Berkshire, and Eton College. His choice of Eton broke royal tradition, as previous generations had attended Gordonstoun in Scotland. Like his brother Prince William, he followed the Spencer family tradition.
Mental Health and Exercise
During the episode, recorded during Harry's trip to the UK last week ahead of next year's Invictus Games, the Duke spoke about his mental health and how he manages it. 'Going to the gym is an absolute, that's the one, I mean, any form of exercise is great, especially when you're depressed,' he said.
When asked his occupation, Harry responded: 'Uh, full-time dad, uh, British Army veteran, Prince of England, Duke. But, uh, for today, um, I don't know, what do you want? Duke? We'll go with the Duke, yeah. Yeah. Obviously, uh, for today as well, because of where we are.'
Harry Kane and World Cup Hopes
When asked if he would swap lives for a day with Harry Styles, Harry Kane or Harry Potter, Prince Harry stated he would choose to be Kane 'on a winning day,' explaining: 'You don't want to be Kane on a losing day, do you?' He added that Kane and his England teammates will win the World Cup ahead of their semi-final clash with Argentina on Wednesday. 'Who wouldn't want to ride a broomstick? Like, but... And Harry Styles, great, you know, runs around on stage in a pair of tight shorts. What? So it's, so it's, it's a tough, it's a hard choice, but Kane for me.'
As part of his grooming routine, Harry explained that he simply chooses to 'sh*t, shower and shave,' although not at the same time.
Meeting with King Charles
While in the UK last week, Harry, along with Meghan and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, met with King Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, for the first time in four years. The royal meeting took place at Charles' private residence, Highgrove in Gloucester, although no further details have been shared. It was the first time Charles had seen his grandchildren since their last trip to the UK for the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth in 2022.
In recent years, Harry had met with Charles privately during trips to the UK. It is believed that Harry and Meghan also stayed with his uncle, Earl Spencer, on the Althorp Estate in Northampton, where his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, is buried. He did not meet with his brother William or his sister-in-law Kate.
