Prince Harry has addressed his personal appearance during a podcast appearance on Joe Marler Will See You Now, as part of his trip to the UK in which he reunited with his father King Charles. The Duke of Sussex, 41, opened up about his famous ginger locks – or not ginger, as he now claims.
When asked what people get wrong most about him, he said it was the colour of his hair. He explained: “Yeah, people think I'm ginger, but I'm more sort of like sunset, like Auburn. Yeah. I don't know why that's funny…Unless you want to call me ginge, you know, I got bullied a lot at school. It's called Carrot Top.”
Harry on His Beard and Hair Loss
Harry also spoke about his beard after Joe Marler, a former professional rugby player, complimented it. Harry responded: “I trim my beard every sort of five, six days just to keep it a little bit tidy. Nothing really happening on top. I get a haircut otherwise I try not to look at what’s happening.”
This comment acknowledged his thinning hair, a topic he has rarely addressed publicly.
Reunion with King Charles and Family
Prince Harry’s appearance on Marler’s podcast came ahead of a meeting with his father King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove last week. It was the first time the monarch had seen his grandchildren, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, since Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022. Buckingham Palace confirmed the meeting had occurred and described it as a “private family occasion”. No photos, if any were taken, of the meeting were released to the public.
Using Sport as an Outlet
During the same interview, Harry also touched on how he used sport as an outlet to help him deal with negative emotions. He said: “Exercise, sport and being able to find the time to take yourself somewhere, do something – repetition is great, have a routine. Boxing, another thing that I really enjoy, just to let the aggression out, get a sweat on, to me it's always about getting a sweat on.”
Scotty's Little Soldiers Event
Away from the podcast, Harry also attended the Scotty’s Little Soldiers summer festival. The event, at Maxstoke Castle in Warwickshire, happened less than 48 hours after his reunion with his father. At the event, for a charity that supports bereaved military children, Harry took part in a short question and answer session with the children. Harry has worked with the charity since 2017 and became an ambassador for them in 2023.
One of the children asked Harry if he does anything to mark his mother's death. Princess Diana died in a car accident in Paris on August 31, 1997. In response, he said: “Yes, we do lemon drizzle cake. I think traditions are really, really important, especially when they’re sweet.”
