Gerwyn Price has said he "won't repeat" his initial reaction after learning he will become a grandfather at the age of 41. The Welsh darts star's eldest daughter, Emily, and her partner Jude Williams recently announced they are expecting their first child.
Price Opens Up About News
Speaking after his 11-5 victory over Rob Cross at the World Matchplay on Wednesday, Price told journalists: "I won't repeat my first couple of words! But after that I was really happy. As long as the baby's healthy, that's all that matters."
The former world champion added: "I'm really happy for them. They're both young and I don't think they quite know what's coming, but they'll be fine. He's a bit lazy, but he's all right. I'll kick him into gear."
Family Focus
Price, who has two children with his wife Bethan, has consistently emphasised the importance of family throughout his career. He recently accompanied his daughter on a shopping trip for newborn clothing.
The 41-year-old has also taken on a new business venture, acquiring farmland in Treharris, which he admitted may be affecting his darts form. He said earlier this week: "It goes to show, throwing sheep about instead of darts, it doesn't help! It was a tough one for me. I've got no confidence at the minute because I haven't played a lot."
World Matchplay Campaign
Price, the seventh seed, will face No.15 Ross Smith in the quarter-finals of the World Matchplay in Blackpool. Smith advanced after Kevin Doets and then Cameron Menzies, who withdrew due to illness. Price nearly exited in the first round, coming from 6-2 down to beat Martin Schindler 11-9.
