A special edition of The Beatles' classic album Rubber Soul will be released on October 2, featuring previously unheard session recordings and home demos. The announcement was made on the band's official Instagram page, prompting excitement among fans.
New mixes and unreleased material
The album has been newly mixed by producer Giles Martin and engineer Sam Okell, sourced directly from the original four-track master tapes. It will be presented in new stereo and Dolby Atmos mixes. The Super Deluxe collection also includes the original mono mix, the original Capitol US album version, previously unreleased session recordings and home demos, and the contemporary double A-side single 'Day Tripper / We Can Work It Out'.
First released on December 3, 1965, Rubber Soul marked a pivotal moment in The Beatles’ evolution, pushing beyond the conventions of pop music. The album features classics such as 'Drive My Car', 'Norwegian Wood' and 'In My Life'.
Accompanying book and fan reactions
Sir Paul McCartney commented on the Instagram post with a series of orange heart emojis. He has also written a foreword for an 88-page hardbound book accompanying the special edition, which includes a written introduction from John Lennon's own words. The book offers a unique perspective on the making and enduring impact of the album, alongside rare photographs and track notes.
Across the Super Deluxe collections, fans can hear 24 early session recordings, including 20 previously unreleased takes and three previously unreleased home demos. One demo is 'Little Girl', a previously unheard Lennon song outline.

Recording history
Rubber Soul was recorded over four weeks during October and November 1965, following the band’s record-breaking concert to more than 55,000 fans at Shea Stadium in New York. It was recorded after the band's first ever break from recording music and films after a relentless few years from officially forming in 1960.
The reissue comes after similar special editions of albums such as Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles (White Album), Abbey Road, Let It Be and Revolver.
