Daytime TV Poll: Which Show Should Be Axed?

Daytime television has exploded in recent years, but not all shows are created equal. A new poll asks viewers to decide which daytime programme is the worst on air. From long-running staples to newer entries, the options include Lorraine, Loose Women, Morning Live, This Morning, The Jeremy Vine Show, and Storm & Alexis.

Lorraine: Has It Run Its Course?

Lorraine Kelly's show first aired in 2010, evolving from a GMTV segment called LK Today. Kelly has been a breakfast TV fixture for over 40 years, but the programme has faced significant cuts. In January 2026, ITV reduced the hour-long show to just 30 minutes daily, airing only 30 weeks per year. The show is often first to be dropped for major events, such as when it was pulled to allow Good Morning Britain to cover Sir Keir Starmer's resignation. Kelly told Saga Magazine: "Really rubbish. A lot of my team got made redundant. It was really hard and harder for them."

Loose Women: Scandals and Budget Cuts

Loose Women launched in 1999 with Kaye Adams. Recent scandals include Nadia Sawalha facing backlash over alleged anti-Semitic tropes in YouTube videos, Ruth Langsford's marital split from Eamonn Holmes, and bullying claims against Adams from her BBC Radio Scotland days. ITV has cut the show to 30 weeks per year, changed the studio, and axed the live audience.

Morning Live: Romance Rumours and Scheduling Woes

BBC's Morning Live launched in October 2020. Hosts Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones faced romance rumours, which Skelton denied in December 2025: "We just work together, we are not together." The show is regularly pulled for holidays, disappearing for two weeks over Easter 2026. With BBC planning 550 job cuts, the show's future is uncertain.

This Morning: Post-Schofield and Willoughby

This Morning has aired since 1988. It faced backlash in 2021 when Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield offered viewers a chance to win energy bill payments during the cost-of-living crisis, and later for queue-jumping at Queen Elizabeth II's lying in state. Schofield admitted an "unwise, but not illegal" relationship with a younger colleague, leading to his departure. Willoughby left after a murder-kidnap plot. Now hosted by Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, the show remains unaffected by budget cuts.

The Jeremy Vine Show: Too Similar to Radio?

Jeremy Vine's Channel 5 show replaced The Wright Stuff in 2018. Vine also hosts a similar programme on BBC Radio 2. Critics argue the TV show is too similar to his radio show, suggesting he should focus on one platform.

Storm & Alexis: Divided but Duplicative

Storm & Alexis launched in January 2026 on Channel 5. On May 15, 2026, the hosts split into separate hour-long shows. Both cover similar topics, leading to questions about whether Channel 5 needs both, especially with Jeremy Vine covering political issues earlier in the day.
