Meghan Markle took to Instagram last week to share a series of family photographs from their recent European holiday. While many appeared to be from Portugal, where the family reportedly have a holiday home, others seemed to be from their brief UK trip. One photograph sparked outrage online.
The photograph, believed to be taken at the Althorp Estate, shows Prince Harry and Prince Archie carrying flowers, with Princess Lilibet walking behind them. Fans recognised the background as the Althorp Estate gardens, leading many to assume the photograph was taken before the family visited Princess Diana’s resting place on the estate.
Criticism on social media
This assumption comes as Harry and Archie are also carrying flowers, which they could have taken to put down at Diana’s grave at Althorp – her ancestral home still lived in by her brother Earl Charles Spencer.
The photograph sparked outrage online, with many criticising the 44-year-old duchess for publicly sharing what should have been a private moment. Meghan has not responded to the criticism.
Many people criticised the move on X, with one person writing: “She has no shame or respect. And Harry is no different. Diana's family should be appalled.”
Someone else commented: “You have to admit, this is pretty sickening. The holiday pictures are fine, but to take photos of the children carrying flowers on their way to lay them at Diana’s grave, is not something that should be shared with the public like a fun day out. It’s ghoulish.”
Another person said: “I’m actually shocked she’d post this. That’s a new low.”
