A second man has been arrested in connection with the death of Gogglebox star George Gilbey. Essex Police said a 36-year-old man from Witham was taken into custody on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.
The 40-year-old self-employed electrician died on 27 March after falling through a skylight while working on a roof in Shoeburyness, Essex. A 47-year-old man, also from Witham, who was arrested on the same charge has been released under investigation.
A joint investigation between Essex Police and the Health and Safety Executive is ongoing. An inquest earlier this month heard that Mr Gilbey's injuries were consistent with a fall from height. Coroner's officer Deborah Frost said he had been working on a roof and fell through a plastic skylight.
Mr Gilbey was a well-known figure on Channel 4's Gogglebox, appearing with his family between 2013 and 2018, and on Celebrity Big Brother in 2014. His mother, Linda McGarry, told the Clacton Gazette that her son 'did more in his 40 years than people do in 90', calling him generous, funny and kind.
Within two weeks of his death, more than £3,000 had been raised online to support his family.
