Piers Morgan slammed Prime Minister Andy Burnham during an episode of his YouTube series, Uncensored, after his American panelists failed to identify the Labour leader. Hosting Josh Hammer, Curtis Sliwa, Ryan Bodenheimer, and Andrew Callaghan, Morgan showed them a photo of Burnham and asked for his name and job title. Only Josh answered correctly.
Morgan remarked: 'I don't blame you guys [for not knowing] because he's the seventh prime minister in 10 years, and the fifth in four years.' He added: 'There's famously a cat, and I was talking about this earlier, a cat called Larry who was a stray cat that was born into Downing Street in 2011, who's now outsurvived seven different prime ministers, and I have a horrible feeling it might be eight before too long.'
Morgan Calls Situation 'Extremely Damning'
Calling it 'extremely damning' that three of his panelists had no clue who Burnham was, Morgan said it reflected the 'farcical nature of politics' in Britain. A vocal critic of the current Labour government, Morgan recently chastised Burnham in a scathing tweet, sharing a photo of the new PM alongside King Charles with the caption: 'BREAKING: The Coronation: Unelected man appointed British Prime Minister by unelected man.'
Morgan Urges Burnham to Call Election
In a recent appearance on Good Morning Britain, Morgan told viewers that while he likes to give new prime ministers a chance, Burnham desperately needs to prove himself. 'I give every new prime minister a chance. He's been waiting up there in Manchester for many years, plotting and scheming for the moment he seizes the crown…' Morgan said. 'I have to say, from a political point of view, a ruthlessly, brilliantly executed coup. That's what it is - it's a coronation without election, and that's fine if he, in his speech today, lays out a genuine, well-thought-through plan that he's going to execute, which will actually improve the lives of people in this country.'
Morgan added: 'If I were Burnham, I would call an election. I would actually go to the public say today..I hear you. You want me to have a proper mandate. I believe in my plan. I'm going to transform this country.'
