Piers Morgan Meghan Markle row reignited over father allegations

Express readers are debating whether Piers Morgan's criticism of Meghan Markle is the correct approach after the Duchess of Sussex's father, Thomas Markle, was reportedly investigated in the Philippines over child abuse allegations.

Morgan questions Meghan's response

Following the news, Meghan released a statement confirming she had been informed of the allegations in 2018 by the London Metropolitan Police and said she had distanced herself from Thomas since learning of them to protect her children.

In response, the broadcaster questioned her statement, asking why Thomas was not arrested if police had alerted Meghan to such serious allegations, and why she did not go public to protect others.

Morgan also called for the correspondence between British police and the Sussexes' office to be made public, and lashed out at the mother-of-two online.

Allegations and denial

The 82-year-old was reportedly under investigation following allegations by his son, Thomas Markle Jr., that he had kept child abuse images in his belongings at their shared home in the Philippines.

Meghan's estranged father has vehemently denied the allegations, calling them "sick lies".

Morgan fumed: "I'm very sorry her father is an alleged paedophile and that she knew this while falsely accusing the Royal Family of being callous racists."

Royal Family racism claims

Although Meghan did not label members of the Royal Family racist in the 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, supported by her husband, Prince Harry, the couple revealed that the colour of their son, Prince Archie, seven, was questioned.

They shared that an unnamed member of the monarchy raised "concerns and conversations" about how dark their son Archie's skin might be before he was born.

Even though the Sussexes refused to name the individual, Oprah later clarified that Harry noted the comments were not made by the late Queen Elizabeth or the late Prince Philip.

In later interviews, the Duke said that the comments reflected an "unconscious bias" rather than intentional racism within the family.

In their response, Buckingham Palace said that the issues raised, particularly around race, were taken seriously and would be addressed privately as family matters.

During a school visit in 2021, Prince William hit back and told reporters that the Royal Family is "very much not a racist family."

Readers split on Morgan's stance

Some agreed with Morgan's furious posts about Meghan's response to the allegations, as one commented: "I don't often agree with him nowadays, but he's right."

As another echoed: "It's extremely rare that I agree with you @piersmorgan, but on this, you are correct!"

Meanwhile, others slammed the former ITV presenter as one fumed: "It's probably best if you never mention Meghan again. It always makes you look bad."

A fourth hit back: "Christ, what is wrong with this man? Why is he so fixated on this woman?"
