Scott Mills has signed off from BBC Radio 1 after 24 years, with the studio where he broadcast his final show renamed in his honour. The 48-year-old DJ, who co-hosted his daytime show with Chris Stark, was visibly moved as the studio previously known as 82A became '82 Mills'.
During the emotional final episode titled 'Love You Bye', Mills said: 'I have had to do a lot of deep breaths today, even the sky is crying.' The show featured surprise messages from celebrities including Lewis Capaldi, Joel Corry, Sam Ryder, and David Hasselhoff, as well as past and present Radio 1 presenters.
Mills joined Radio 1 in 1998 and hosted various shows, including The Official Chart Show since 2018. Stark, who became co-presenter in 2012, will join Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp and develop sport content for Global Player. The pair will be replaced by Dean McCullough and Vicky Hawkesworth from September 5.
Mills is moving to BBC Radio 2 to take over the 2pm-4pm slot from Steve Wright, who is stepping down after 23 years. Stark will also continue co-hosting That Peter Crouch Podcast and The Pirate Ship.
