Peter Andre has broken his silence on his marriage to Katie Price, providing a rare comment for her new documentary series. The singer and former I'm A Celebrity star, now 53, was married to Price from 2005 to 2009 after they met on the ITV jungle show.
Andre's Statement on the Marriage
Andre, who has largely refused to comment on the marriage for the sake of their two children Junior and Princess, provided a statement that appears on screen at the end of episode three of the series. He said: "I have chosen not to speak publicly about these matters out of love and respect for Junior and Princess. Today Katie and I maintain an amicable relationship in the interests of our children. I sincerely wish her happiness and peace for the future."
Price's Reflections in the Documentary
In the Sky documentary, Price looks back on their time together, saying: "By the end of it I was smitten with him. Meeting Pete and being with Pete were the best times of my life, without a doubt." She adds: "I had my prince, I knew I would be with him forever." However, the relationship ended after a few years, with arguments over work and Andre's suspicions about Price's closeness to other men. Price also admits she found their agent Claire Powell "suffocating" and missed doing photoshoots as Jordan in favour of her new clean-cut image with Andre.
The Split and Its Aftermath
Reflecting on the sudden split, which occurred without attempts to talk things through, Price describes it as "like a dagger in the heart" and says she didn't want to split up. In episode four, she adds: "For people looking in we were the perfect couple. But there were things that weren't right. It's all about communication and we didn't communicate, but we could have worked through it. We could have done, looking back. Can't turn the clock back now, it's weird."
Price's New Beginning
Price launched the series at the Sheffield Documentary Festival last month, calling it the start of a new beginning. She said: "I am so proud, you know. I've got beautiful kids. I've still got an amazing family. There's not that many friends left for me, because I've learned that some of the friends are people I've needed to get rid of. But I am definitely the best version I've ever been of myself. It's like I've been in a washing machine and come out the other side with the experience and the knowledge, and I am at peace with myself. I feel like I'm starting my career again, and this is the start of my new career."
Despite being currently married to Lee Andrews, she told the audience she might marry again in the future, adding: "What am I going to be like in 20 years? I should certainly look different, my face will be up here. How many more marriages? I don't know."
Katie Price: Nothing to Hide, a four-part Sky Original series, will be available on Sky and streaming service NOW on 8 July.
