Pete Wicks has revealed to Sam Thompson why he decided to 'hard launch' his romance with Olivia Attwood. The revelation came during the latest episode of the Staying Relevant podcast on Sunday, July 26.
Fans had speculated for months that Pete was in a relationship with Olivia. The former Love Island star split from her footballer husband Bradley Dack earlier this year after two years of marriage. Neither Pete nor Olivia had directly commented on their relationship status, but photos emerged last month of them enjoying a romantic holiday at a resort in the south of France.
Instagram Post Confirms Romance
Earlier in the month, they were seen together in Ibiza, where Olivia was joined by Pete and friends for an upcoming project. Pete shared a string of photos on Instagram from the holiday, showing the group enjoying shots and boat trips. The first snap featured him and Olivia lying together on a yacht. Another snap showed Olivia lying in Pete's lap as he kissed the top of her head. He captioned the post: 'I guess someone has to go first…IBIZA [black heart emoji].'
Returning to the Staying Relevant podcast, Pete and co-host Sam Thompson discussed the Instagram post. Sam asked Pete about his thought process when sharing it. Pete responded: 'The thought process was what would Liv like… We'd spoken about it and I thought ''ah f*** it'' you know let's go and do it. Obviously the first photo had to be of me and Liv, and all I really cared about was I didn't embarrass her.'
Sam Thompson Calls Her His 'Girlfriend'
Sam reassured Pete that he didn't think he embarrassed Olivia. Pete noted that Instagram had suggested the accompanying music and admitted his goal was to keep the post 'simple'. He joked: 'Just there we go, now it's out it's fine, we're good.' Seeming to confirm the relationship status, Sam teased: 'Pete's got a girlfriend, my boy has got a girlfriend!'
Previously discussing their latest trip, Pete said on the podcast: 'It was wonderful to see her, it has been two and a half weeks…. so we had a fabulous time. I have really hurt my back, because I was backflipping off boats, we went for lovely dinners, we went to clubs, we drank a lot. It was magical, is probably the best way to describe it. Obviously, she'd been out there filming for a couple of weeks so I hadn't seen her, so yeah, and I really missed her and it was lovely.'
Meanwhile, Olivia said on her podcast, Olivia's House, that she wanted to protect herself while she worked out what the relationship was before anything was revealed more publicly. She said: 'I do have a person. It's the worst kept secret. But also I'm keeping it very close to my chest at the moment while I know what it is. Just in the way that I don't send the first good morning text. I'm not f***ing hard launching anyone first.'
