ITV political editor Robert Peston has revealed he felt "desperately guilty" after falling in love with another woman years after his wife, Sian Busby, passed away. Sian, who was married to Peston for 14 years, died from lung cancer in 2012 at the age of 51.
Guilt and New Love
Peston told the Sunday Times magazine that he felt guilty about his relationship with fellow journalist Charlotte Edwardes. "I did feel desperately guilty," he said. He also described how women behaved towards him after he became a widower, stating: "Women are predatory towards me. I think there is a stalky thing that happens, and I think women talk about it more than men normally, but there is definitely a stalky thing that happens for men as well, and you have to be slightly careful."
Meeting Charlotte Edwardes
Peston met Edwardes at a Christmas party, having briefly worked with her in the past. He noted that she was "the only person that I came across around that period who literally knew almost nothing about the BBC stuff or Sian or anything." According to reports, the couple moved in together in London around 2017.
Split in 2026
However, the relationship ended in March 2026, according to the Scottish Daily Mail. A source told the publication: "It’s terribly sad, but they just couldn’t make it work any longer." Peston, who has two children with Sian—Max and Simon—is understood to be currently single and has not publicly commented on his relationship status.
